France's artistic and musical scene is witnessing an exceptional tour led by the famous rap duo from Toulouse, Bigflo et Oli. The two brothers are traversing major French cities as part of their "Karma Tour," following a series of five sold-out shows at the Zenith in their hometown and extensive appearances at summer festivals.
Massive Stage Production: An Airplane and Live Effects
This stage presence marks a special milestone for the duo, a decade after their debut in the music industry. Bigflo considered touring to be the true reward after the grueling work and recording in the studio, emphasizing that concerts represent the moment of celebration and the actual culmination of every artistic project.
The current tour's shows feature a massive production akin to a complete theatrical piece; eight musicians accompany them on stage, alongside comprehensive re-arrangements of all songs, as well as dazzling stage sets that include falling artificial snow and a giant model airplane flying over the audience's heads. His brother Oli noted that their passion for theatrical staging was influenced by prominent figures in French rap history, led by Diam's, who was a pioneer in introducing innovative and impactful ideas into live performances.
From the High School Courtyard to France's Largest Arenas
The roots of the brothers' success date back to 2012, when, as teenagers, they performed their first verses in the courtyard of Lycée Saint-Sernin in Toulouse. They quickly made a name for themselves through the "Rap Contenders" battle league, opening doors for them to support major stars such as Orelsan and Sexion d'Assaut.
Despite their major transformation and widespread fame, the duo insists on preserving their identity as "unclassifiable outsiders" within the French rap scene—a status they regard as the secret behind their longevity away from fleeting waves of fame, while maintaining the same close circle of friends from their school days.
The Album "Karma": Confronting Depression and Breaking Taboos
Beyond the visual spectacle on stage, their fifth album, "Karma," carried a deeper and bolder dimension in addressing personal themes. Among the album's most notable tracks is "W_Osaka_hotel.mp3," recorded on a mobile phone voice memo under difficult psychological circumstances while Oli was staying at a hotel in Osaka, Japan. In it, he speaks candidly and without shame about his battle with depression and taking antidepressants, emphasizing that Zenith arenas give them ample time to present this kind of intimate song and share real-life human experiences that resonate with the daily lives of many.
