Russian Strikes Damage Bridge and Energy Infrastructure in Kyiv, Injuring Five
Intense Russian strikes targeted Kyiv overnight, severely damaging energy infrastructure and the Northern Bridge, leaving at least five civilians injured and disrupting vital heating and water supplies.
- Five people were injured, including a 14-year-old boy, while a kindergarten was destroyed and the 'Northern Bridge' was damaged in Kyiv.
- A severe deterioration in energy supplies directly affected heating and drinking water networks across the Ukrainian capital.
- Preparations are underway for a trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi on November 10–11 bringing together envoys from Kyiv, Moscow, and Washington.
The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and its surrounding areas were subjected to intensive Russian strikes overnight from Friday to Saturday, November 7, causing severe damage to energy facilities and strategic infrastructure, and injuring at least five civilians, including a 14-year-old boy.
Disruption to Heating and Water Supplies and Severing of a Vital Traffic Artery
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced via Telegram that the energy supply situation in the capital has become extremely difficult and complex, stressing that this deterioration has severely impacted the operation of heating networks and vital drinking water supplies for residents.
The strikes also hit the "Northern Bridge," a key bridge spanning the Dnipro River that connects the two halves of the city, halting traffic across it. The bridge had previously been targeted last October, prompting authorities at the time to equip it with anti-drone protective netting for the first time since the war broke out in February 2022. Emergency services also reported the destruction of a kindergarten building as a result of the shelling inside the capital.
These attacks came hours after a warning issued by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who pointed out on Friday evening that intelligence indicated Russian forces were preparing to carry out strikes targeting bridges, civilian infrastructure, and energy facilities.
Anticipated Diplomatic Efforts in Abu Dhabi
On the political and diplomatic front, the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, is expected to host a trilateral meeting on November 10 and 11, bringing together envoys from Kyiv, Washington, and Moscow. The meeting aims to attempt to revive the long-stalled negotiation track, noting that the last similar meeting among the three parties took place in mid-February in Geneva without achieving a breakthrough to end the ongoing conflict.
