- The capital's mayor reports five injuries and highlights critical damage to heating networks and water supplies.
- Trilateral talks between Kyiv, Washington, and Moscow are expected on November 10–11 in Abu Dhabi to discuss negotiations.
The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and its suburbs experienced a new round of Russian missile strikes targeting vital and strategic infrastructure, damaging a key bridge and power generation and distribution sites, and causing widespread disruption to basic service supplies for the city's residents.
Critical Damage to Water and Heating
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed on Saturday, November 7, that the energy supply situation in the capital has become extremely difficult, explaining on Telegram that this damage directly impacts the operation of district heating systems and the flow of drinking water to homes, at a time when the country is approaching an expectedly harsh winter.
Klitschko reported that the overnight strikes on the capital left at least five people injured, including a 14-year-old boy. The damage also extended to educational facilities, where the strikes destroyed a kindergarten building, according to emergency and ambulance services.
Targeting Bridges and Halting Traffic
Russian strikes also hit the "North Bridge" (Pivnichnyi Bridge), a major crossing over the Dnipro River connecting parts of the capital, leading to a complete standstill and disruption of traffic. The bridge had previously been bombarded in October, prompting authorities at the time to equip it with anti-drone protective netting as a first-of-its-kind defensive measure in Kyiv since the conflict broke out in 2022.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had earlier pointed to intelligence reports indicating that Russian forces were preparing coordinated strikes targeting civilian infrastructure, energy facilities, and bridges, vowing to retaliate through long-range operations.
Upcoming Diplomatic Efforts in Abu Dhabi
On the political and diplomatic front, a trilateral meeting is expected to take place on November 10 and 11 in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, bringing together envoys from Kyiv, Washington, and Moscow in an attempt to revive the negotiation track frozen since the outbreak of the war in the Middle East last February. This upcoming meeting follows the last talks held among the three parties in Geneva in mid-February, which concluded without achieving any tangible progress toward ending the conflict that has been ongoing since February 2022.
